Conceptual Design - Interactive Maze

Work in progress interactive installation.jpg

Between June - October 2020 I worked with a group of actors from Rose bruford college to explore making a piece for young people, looking first at memories and the choices we make when we are young. This piece morphed and transformed into Unshore, but firstly I created a conceptual design for an interactive Covid safe piece allowing audience members to experience a space individually.

We looked at lot at the significance of water, how water reoccurs in myths to do with memory, new life, rebirth. I was particularly interested in the idea of a space being changed by and added to by each audience. And despite covid restrictions we explored how we could incorporate sensory elements for a engulfing space.

In the maze you travel deeper into the subconscious. You can push doors open, but by doing this you may force a later explorer to change their route, you might block a path or lead another astray. Audience members wear headphones throughout and as they move around new stories float in and out of their world.
